As an engineer I’m drawn to old machinery. Nothing represents the industrial revolution better than old worn mechanical machines, before computerization. With their simple but smart design it is actually possible to understand how they work. And to see such machinery in actual operation is extra special.
I was therefore extremely privileged when I stumbled upon a 100 year old workshop in Bangkok that actually still is in operation. All their heavy machinery is involved in only one main task: Making wires and sheets from silver and gold ingots. Those orders came from silver smiths that use these wires and sheets for manufacturing jewelry.
